Redesigning Your Home: Start With Your Bedroom

There's a reason why people refer to the home as the place where the heart is. The home is supposed to serve as a safe haven. It's the one place you can call your own. Because it belongs to you, it's important to make sure that your home reflects your style and taste. If your home doesn't currently reflect the way your personality in the way you want it to, it's time for a little redecorating. The perfect place to start a redecorating project is your bedroom. If you're unsure of how to breathe new life into your bedroom, start with these tips.

1. Add wallpaper.

Wallpaper is great because anyone can apply it to a room and make it look instantly chic. It can look as if an interior designer worked on it. If applying wallpaper to all four walls seems to be a bit pricey for your budget, purchase a smaller amount of wallpaper and cover one wall instead of all four. Statement walls are trending and the wallpaper can really add pizzazz to a drab room. Don't be afraid to experiment with colors, patterns and textures. A bold pattern can serve as its own art piece.

2. Accessorize the bed.

If you’re debating between a california king vs king bed, know that both have their benefits. No matter what size you choose, remember that you’ll want to accessorize the bed as it tends to be the largest piece of furniture in the room. Try a mix of pillows in different textures and fabrics to add visual interest to the bed. You can also add a duvet cover and allow that to add a luxurious flair to a room. It's also nice to include blanket at the end of the bed that you can always use if you ever want to take a quick nap without turning down all of the covers. Plus, it'll look nice at the edge of the bed. When it's time to accessorize, use different fabrics for a more layered look. If your pillows are made of cotton, switch things up by adding a few silk pillows. If the majority of your bedding is silk, change things up by adding a faux fur blanket.

3. Get a large area rug.

An area rug is a great addition to the bedroom. It doesn't matter if you have hardwood floors or carpet. You can always add an area rug. If you have carpet floors, the contrast of a large bamboo rug can look really interesting. If you have hardwood floors, considered choosing rugs that are very soft and plush. They'll add a sense of warmth and coziness to a room. When it's time to choose an area rug, make sure that you opt for one that fits the size of the room it's going in. There's nothing worse than having an area rug that's too small for a room. Measure the dimensions and then purchase the right size.

4. Install floating shelves.

Floating shelves work well in any room. You can choose from a range of colors for your floating shelves. You can decide to paint the floating shelves the same color as your walls. You can also decide to paint the floating shelves a standout color like silver or gold. Once you install them, display artwork, sculptures or pictures of your family to the shelves. Additional ways to decorate the shelves involve adding vases with fresh flowers, books and candles.

As you continue to become more acclimated with the process, you might find that there are other colors, designs and tricks of the trade you'd like to try. Don't be afraid to experiment and have fun. Also, it's a good idea to look at shelter blogs, magazines and TV shows that focus on home decor. These sources can help you gain more inspiration and they can help you gather a vision for what your home will look like.
