You probably spend the majority of your time in your home. You wake up in the morning after sleeping in your bed for 7 hours, you get ready and go to work, but then you come back home to relax. Our homes are the places where we either stress out and get overwhelmed, or where we lay back and relax. A lot of that actually depends on the mood of your house. Colors, patterns, and furniture all influence our mood when we walk in the front door. If you want a relaxed mood, then you need to furnish and decorate your home to fit that mood. 1. Give Your Walls a Fresh Coat of Paint

Not surprisingly, color has a huge effect on our moods. Even thinking of a certain color can change how we’re feeling. Yellow is associated with happiness, blue is calm, red is angry, pink is flirty, and the list goes on and on with each and every color. If you want to have a zen-like home, the best thing you can do is avoid colors that spark restlessness. It’s been shown that painting the walls of a bedroom red, make it harder to fall asleep. So red is off the table for a room color. Instead, use colors that relax you. Stick to earthy tones (light browns, nude tones, greys, and whites) to make your home feel relaxed. To have a calming home, try out shades of blues and light greens.

2. Declutter the Entire House

Clutter is a huge source of stress in a lot of homes. It’s pretty easy to pile up stuff that has become sentimental over the years. If you’re having trouble getting rid of it, write the things down in a journal and take a mental memory of it so that they live on in some way. Or, take a photograph of the things and make a scrapbook of sentimental things. If you aren’t the sentimental type, then just through the stuff out or donate it to a cause or a person that actually needs it. 3. Clean Up Your Backyard

Oftentimes, we put a lot more effort into the front yard than we do to the backyard. We don’t expect people to see the backyard as often, so we don’t worry about it. Cleaning up the backyard, however, does a similar thing to our minds as decluttering the house. It relieves stress. Consider buying organic clothes that don’t have harmful chemicals that were used to dye them. Instead, check out your neighborhood farmer’s market and buy fabrics from someone who hand-makes them in your community. You won’t have to worry about bringing chemicals into your home, and you’ll be supporting your neighbors.
