There is many alternatives such as wood varnish clear coating to make is look nicer. However depending on your door, lacquer is another option but must be done properly or else will not look good

Lacquering and varnishing look nice when new but need lots of taking care, for long-term and easy taking care we will advise to change door to new laminated door which will look better, lasting. The cost per door around $580.00
